Is osteopathy a recognized part of medicine?Britain, France and Australia have granted osteopathy statutory recognition, but have limited its practice to treatment without drugs or surgery. In the United States there are at present 19 osteopathic teaching hospitals. Students graduate as fully licensed physicians. They have the right to provide the full range of medical and osteopathic services, including prescribing drugs to performing surgery.
